ISFA Brought Back the Street Football World Cup
Riga, Latvia. Not the first place that comes to your mind when you think of Street Football is it? But that's where the latest major event just went down, the 2024 Street Football World Cup.
This isn't the first and certainly won't be the last Street Football World cup, but this is the biggest to date. 30 countries took part with the goal to create a name for themselves and take home the glory.
Explain!
Alright I will. If you don't know by now, 3v3 is the common agreed upon format for any major Street Football Event, it allows quick play, creative flair, and a completely different tactical game that most players are used to. You won't get this type of play anywhere else in the footballing world, 3v3 has it's own completely unique taste. This overall event was put together by the team at Ghetto Games from Latvia, as well as in collaboration with ISFA (International Street Football Federation), some countries held qualifiers to select the team they would send over, but it's hard to say if all countries actually set up the proper qualification process. This is the first time that qualifiers was a requirement, so there is the inevitable and expected few bumps along the road.
Who Won?
If you had a single guess, I guarantee you would have picked it first go. Street Kings from the Netherlands added the crown from this event to their endless collection of victories. To finish off the podium we have Joga 3 from Belgium in 2nd, and San Diego FC from the USA in 3rd.
Takeaways
Overall a super cool and much needed addition to the Street Football calendar. Ghetto Games and ISFA held an awesome event, and hopefully there are many more to come.
